Okay guys this picture was taken at my house on Christmas day. the Year is 2008. This picture always bothered because of the green orb in the background. So I have asked many time around here and I know many have said orbs are dust particles. Well this orb looks green and it seemd there was a face to me. So I want everyones input so I can finally put my mind to rest. Is it an Orb or a dust particle? The people you see are my family. : ) Thanks to all for taking time to preview this.

It could easily be either dust or a moisture droplet in the air. I am leaning more toward the moisture droplet due to the coloration-think rainbow effect. I have experienced similar outcomes with the colorful "orbs" which showed up in more than one photo taken by different individuals using different cameras at the same time from slightly different angles. The "orbs" appearred different hues in several of the shots due to the refraction of light, just as a rainbow morphs and changes during viewing.

So Can you help me tell the difference between an actual orb and a dust particle?
Is an orb more oddly shaped than perfect shape? From what I see My assumption is that dust particles are perfect circles and actual orbs are oddly shaped. Correct me if I'm wrong guys. I'm just throwing something out there.

Not an orb expert or anything but seems like you get a lot of these Christmas day pics. You've got the tree and all the decorations with all the sparkly lights, ornaments and tinsel, plus all the dust flying around as people race to rip off wrapping paper. Of course that's just my guess. As some of the more professional photog types on this site have put it, a legit orb would be self-illuminating and would show up without flash. How exactly true that is I don't know but unfortunately orbs are hard to verify.
