At the end of the 19th Century the street was known as Prospect Ave. It was built on the property that used to house the Prospect Elementary School and at another time in history, an old textile factory, both of which burned down. It was/is purportedly the most actively haunted property in Hollywood, if not Los Angeles. In 1901 when the elementary school burned down, the schoolteacher, Miss Elizabeth, and 25 children were still inside and they were all killed as a result of the fire. The Vogue Theatre was opened in July of 1936 and closed as a theatre in 1995. It was rented by the ISPR (International Society for Paranormal Research) in 1997 and used as a venue for psychic performances, investigations and as a research site for 4 years. During this time is was also used as a location for various films but closed in 2001. It is said that the 4 year study conducted by the ISPR was the longest running study of it's kind in the world and they claimed to have cleared the property of seven resident ghosts. The property is now used as a supper club. Haunted Activity: The Vogue Theatre in Hollywood is reported to be haunted by several entities, supposedly including a spirit named "Fritz" who was a projectionist at the theater, and who died in the projection booth of a heart attack. Other ghosts reported here include "Danny" a maintenance engineer who supposedly dies of a drug overdose in the 80's and a school teacher (Miss Elizabeth) and her students from nearly a century ago. The Vogue has been featured on numerous TV shows, and it's claimed that most film crews have had paranormal experiences inside the theatre. There also have been claims of the smell of smoke, of being physically pushed and various other experiences inside The Vogue. |
